The 'Diamond Professional Program' is designed for students wishing to pursue a career in the diamond industry and consists of an eight lesson theory course and an eight day (48 hour) practical workshop.
The theoretical component of this program covers the physical properties, geology, localities, principle mines, crystal system, chemical composition and classification, fancy colours, causes of colour, absorption spectra, inclusions, fluorescence, mining, cutting, gem identification, methods of synthesis, common treatments and enhancements and grading of diamonds.
The eight day practical workshop covers colour and clarity grading, how to estimate the table %, crown angle, pavilion depth %, girdle thickness, polish and symmetry and how to identify lab-created diamonds.
This program includes one online test, a practical examination (requiring the preparation of complete lab reports for four diamonds), a 100 question theoretical multiple-choice examination and a theoretical five essay question examination.
Upon the successful completion of this program, graduates will receive the Diamond Professional Diploma.
The theoretical components of this program are available for long distance learning. You can register at any time and study at your own pace. There are no time restrictions.
This course includes two (2) hours of online tutoring from one of our instructors. Once you have registered, you will receive an email detailing how you can choose your tutoring hours. You can also request additional tutoring hours if necessary.
For students choosing this option, the practical classes must be completed through either the Spanish Gem Academy (SGA), the Dutch Gem Academy (DGA), the French-Swiss Gem Academy (FSGA), the Gem Academy of Canada (GAC) or the South American Gem Academy (SAGA) and requires forty-eight (48) contact hours to complete. The costs for the 'Digital' and 'Printed' course options include the cost of the practical class.
Our courses are also available in print. Please contact us for more information.
Students may choose our accelerated 'Diamond Professional Diploma' residency program and complete the theoretical and practical requirements in eighty-eight (88) contact hours studying full-time at either the French-Swiss Gem Academy (FSGA/AGAT) or the Gem Academy of Canada (GAC/EGM).
